The area around Jellystone
Park™ abounds in natural beauty. Many things to do in our area relate
to nature and the environment. Guests camping in New York for 2-3 days will find
plenty to do within our park, and may not wish to go anywhere! Other
guests, staying 5 days or a week, may want to dedicate one or two days to
explore the Catskill Mountain area. Here is some information to guide you:

A beautiful hiking and viewing spot nearby on the Shawangunk Ridge, only
20 minutes away. From the parking area, a ˝ mile walk takes you to Sam's
Point, which enjoys a 50 mile panorama of the Shawangunk and Catskill
mountains.

A fun new place to go, only 20 minutes from Jellystone Park! A great go
cart track and multilevel mini-golf are the centerpieces. Holiday Mountain
also offers batting cages, an arcade, rock climbing wall, bumper cars, and
even a mechanical bull!

Got the casino bug? Monticello Raceway, which has offered trotters and
horse-betting for decades, recently added 1800 video lottery terminals (VLTs),
slot machines run through the state lottery computers. It’s the closest
the Catskills have come to a full-fledged casino. For adults. A decent
buffet, and some entertainment, about 20 minutes from Jellystone Park.
Bethel
Woods Center for the Arts

After years of planning, the Bethel Performing Arts Center, at the site of
the 1969 Woodstock Festival in Bethel, New York, broke ground in July
2004. A state-of-the-art indoor-outdoor amphitheater opened in July 2006,
and has already featured such acts as the New York Philharmonic, Boston
Pops, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, and Bob Dylan. A Woodstock-era
museum is set to open in 2008. It is a world-class entertainment venue for
the whole family.
County Fairs
Several fairs, including the Little Worlds' Fair in Sullivan County,
take place at different times throughout the summer. We keep
information on these fairs and other special off-site events in a guide
book across from the main desk in our Ranger Station.
River Adventures on the Delaware
You can enjoy an exciting river adventure about 45 minutes from
Jellystone Park. You are taken up the river for a 3 hour trip downstream.

Apple Picking
Come visit in fall, and go pick your own apples 40 minutes away. If
you come on Apple Picking Weekend, Sept. 17-19, we'll pay for your first ˝
bushel! Apple picking takes place all of September and October!

A real working family farm, with hayrides and petting zoo.
Pick strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries (check season). In
fall, pick your own pumpkin, and visit the corn maze!

A vintage airplane museum and airstrip, featuring weekend air shows and
plane rides...about 1 hour from Jellystone Park.
Huguenot Street Colonial Houses www.huguenotstreet.org

Visit one of the oldest streets in America! Huguenot settlers
built these homes in the early 1700s, now run as museums. In New
Paltz, about 40 minutes from Jellystone.
Extreme Sports
Go rock climbing, mountain biking and hiking at Lake Minnewaska State
Park, a beautiful day use facility 25 minutes from us. Hike the
wilderness in the Catskill Park (25 minutes). Hang-glide through

lessons at Wurtsburo Airport,
(845-888-2791) about 25 minutes from Jellystone.

Food and Shopping
For groceries and food, there are three Shoprite supermarkets in
Ellenville, Liberty, and Monticello, all 15-20 minutes from Jellystone
Park. There is a Super Walmart (food and other items) and Home Depot 20
minutes away, in Monticello.
Restaurants
There is great food in the Catskills, but you have to know where to find
it! We do, and we keep a restaurant guide that we write across from
our front desk for you to peruse. Some of our favorites are:

Great and large portions of Italian food, great pizza, reasonable prices
(20 minutes away).

Diner fare, inexpensive, good breakfasts, Lunch and Dinner Specials (10

Great take-out Chinese (15 minutes).
Yissou

Great Greek food, including fresh salads and gyros. Homemade desserts
too. In Liberty (15 minutes).
There are great bagels and bakeries in Ellenville, Liberty and
Monticello. For those who must, Ellenville has McDonald's, and Pizza Hut. Liberty has McDonald's, Burger King, Pizza Hut,
Taco Bell, and Wendy's!
