Driving Direction from Newark Airport to Jellystone Park
From the car rental agency,
follow the signs for airport exit. Upon leaving the airport, watch for
signs for Interstate Route 78 west.
Take Route 78 west for about 5 miles, watching for signs for the Garden
State Parkway north. On the Parkway, you will need small change or dollar
bills to pay several tolls. At the toll booths, go to the ones that accept
cash, NOT the "EasyPass Only" booths. A combination booth (both payments)
is okay.
Once on the Parkway, go north about 20 miles to Exit 163. Exit from the
left lane at Exit 163 onto New Jersey's Route 17 north.
Take 17 north about 15 miles to the end, where you will see signs for
Interstate Route 87 north/Albany. Move to the far left lane for Route 87
north.
Once on Route 87 north, go about 12 miles to exit 16, also known as
Harriman. Exit there and pay the 50 cent toll . Again, go to the cash or
combined payment booths, not "EasyPass Only".
Note that after about two miles on Route 87, there is a major rest area on
the right side (food, petrol, etc.). This is a good spot to stop to use
restrooms, get a cup of coffee, or check directions.
Exit 16 puts you directly onto New York's route 17 north. Do not
exit routes 87 and 17 for any exits beside 16 that mention a route 17
since there are various route 17's around. Stay on the road you are on
when you exit the toll booth.
Take this road about 30 miles to exit 113, Wurtsboro. Exit here to the
stop sign at the end of the ramp. Turn right onto Route 209 north, and
proceed 13 miles to the Village of Ellenville.
In Ellenville, turn left on Route 52 west. After 9 miles, there is a Yogi
Bear sign on the left that tells you to turn left (note there is one at
the 6 mile point that tells you to keep going). The sign is lit at night.
Turn left at the sign and proceed ½ mile up Martinfeld Road. At the
beginning of the road you will pass a camp which is not Jellystone Park.
Jellystone Park is on both sides of the road. Turn left into the
driveway and stop. Come into the Ranger Station so we can check you in.
Welcome to Jellystone Park!
